About KMS
In line with the mandate of CMU and the goals and objectives of its RDE units to provide for the needs and demands of its clients and stakeholders, the Knowledge Management System (KMS) tool will be adopted to determine the utilization of knowledge that resides in the organization or created by it, which can either be technology-based or non-technical with intersecting groups of function. KM is an application of new knowledge in different fields of expertise where these technologies will be put into use and improve the existing technology for the benefit of mankind and society. It is a discovery, capture, integration, sharing and delivery of knowledge/technology process. It is tool or strategy employed by an organization to improve its intellectual property and to meet the organizations objectives and goals to avoid waste of time, money, labor and efforts. KMS will improve the CMUs performance by gaining a competitive advantage through the exhaustive utilization of its knowledge resources. Knowledge is referred to as the sum of information ‐ facts, procedures, concepts, interpretations, ideas, observations and/or judgements ‐ that human beings can process and store in their minds. However, this definition encompasses not only the knowledge contained in individualsʹ minds, but also the information existing inside single and networked organizations. KM has the ability of organizations to create, acquire, store, maintain and spread their knowledge (Greco et al., 2013). The goal of KMS is not to manage all the existing knowledge inside the organization, but to manage the right selected knowledge and make it readily available to help people create, store and share it inside the organization: in this way individual and organizational performance can be improved (Greco et al., 2013).
Central Mindanao University is an institution whose mandate revolves mainly on the areas of instruction, research, development and extension has already been a reservoir for knowledge itself. Through the Research, Development and Extension offices, programs and projects have been conducted for the past many years. The current situation of the RDE now is that CMU has a pool of completed RDE projects/programs/activities and an existing KMS which has been recently institutionalize as a unit. However, with the all the RDE outputs, it wasn’t accounted how many of it reaches to the target user which is our first respondents (poorest of the poor) and how these outputs help our local people. Most of the completed RDE outputs has not been utilized as to its importance to the society. Hence, with the help of KM, CMU, through the RDE units, will work towards proper management and optimum knowledge utilization to serve the communities who needed it the most.
