Mr. Abrea founded Kakawani, a food startup based in Davao City. He processed cacao products, utilizing the beans and the pulp, which others considered waste products. He aims to upcycle cacao fruit wastes to deliver new and unique flavors in the food and beverage industry. Kakawani won first place in Ecothon 2021 in the Philippines. Ecothon, an eco-entrepreneurs marathon for sustainable development, is a business model competition for promising eco-entrepreneurs with an innovative business idea related to SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production (‘SCP’). It seeks to foster an eco-entrepreneurship and to contribute to achieving the SDGs by developing sustainable business models that minimize environmental impact.
